How amazing were the two speeches!!? Both women spoke so eloquently. Both nations can be proud of their Heads of State. I particularly loved the end, when the Queen's toast was over and the microphone caught her saying "I like this clanky glass".
I'm all for protesting, but theres a way to protest and the images being broadcast on the news in the past few days are of rioting, not protesting. In fairness, I thought the scumbags would have caused more chaos than they did! Job well done by the Gardai.
" Queen visiting National Stud" hope he has a fluffer i keep getting images of Spartacus now that would get the tourist pensioners flocking here .......did i misspell a word there the word police seem to have gone on strike
So, what time is she actually due in Cork tomorrow? She has to go to Cashel too so I spose it'll be afternoon-time?
Because after suffering through Dublin it's good to showcase a nice place before sending the head of state of another nation on her merry way.
I got a free half-day today thanks to her visit so I'm not complaining too much Not looking forward to the amount of security I'll have to go through going to work but can't be helped.
I'm just back from town. All I can say is WOW!!! I am totally smitten. Cork was packed, people lined the streets, the atmosphere was fabulous. HM passed within 6 feet of me, waving and smiling. She seemed to really enjoy it today, it was way more relaxed and fun than the more symbolic/serious stuff in Dublin. The Gardaí were brilliant, so helpful and jovial. I also got to see her drive back again to the airport. Everyone was so happy and buzzing, and seemed genuinely thrilled with her. Everyone watching the big screen on St. Patrick's Street gave her a huge wave goodbye when she got onto the aeroplane. There was such warmth! I must say Cork came out very well from today's visit. There looked like a big enough group of demonstrators outside the tax/FÁS office. During their chants of 'Brits Out' everyone could make out the heavy tones of the Dublin accent - I guess bus loads came down? Nothing the demonstrators could do could impinge on what was a spectucular day. Everyone seemed in such a joyful mood; just getting a glimpse of the Queen filled people with delight. After all that gushing it's pretty clear I'm on a high after the day!!
What a great day!! The queen really seemed to enjoy herself compared to Dublin and the crowds for her was brilliant!!! I LOVED the camera following her around the Market and showing her everything, she even managed to get a few joke in her outfit was lovely!! The only complaint with the day I suppose would be with the security... The amount of people I heard of being pulled over and searched was surreal. Alot of people were complaing about the gardai, they were quite intimdating and it kinda gave the whole thing quite an unpleasant feeling. If there was when part that didnt do us any justice it was them :/ I guess they were just on a bit if a power trip. Besides that fall back though, what an incredible week!! An it was sunny all week for it! great week for Ireland and an amazing day to finish it on I'm sure the queen is knackered though P.s. Dublin, THAT is how it's done
Yes Deano, I could not agree with you more. THAT is certainly how to welcome a foreign head of state. I cried at several moments during the week. The wreath laying was so powerful. But that speech! As soon as she opened her mouth to speak, I was a gonner. Powerful, meaningful words. Beautiful speech. I think, however that she's going to remember Cork for a very very long time. I believe it was truly one of the warmest welcomes she has received on any state visit to any country. Well done Cork!!!
Queen Elizabeth has thanked the people of Cork for the warm welcome she received on her visit. http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/queen-elizabeth-thanks-cork-for-warm-reception-507150.html Here's a photo of the letter. http://twitpic.com/54ptr3/full
That was nice of her. But I'm not sure if BreakingNews.ie reported it accurately. The handwritten section in that letter would seem to be the handwriting of Edward Young, not the Queen.
One has asked her secretary to thank the people of Cork. As one should do. I love the breaking news: Seeing said letter, I am shocked she changed her name to Edward Young. Or is he a queen?
