    Hi Folks,

Following on from the Lifestyle Weekend and in particular the Cabaret show, I've received quite a number of requests and suggestions from various Lifestyle Weekend guests, speakers and exhibitors.

They've asked about the possibility of putting on a stage musical or full variety show in a theatrical setting rather than in a resource centre.

As a result I had a chat with our accompanist for the Cabaret and my co-host who both believe we should give it a shot and that by all means it can certainly be done.

I will keep you all posted on here and on the airwaves, but please keep your comments coming. We want to know what you'd like to see, your thoughts on the idea etc etc.

    Regards,

    Colleen xoxo

Aren't "Mna, Mna" aka LinC's choir doing something like this for the Women's Fun Weekend?

Yeah they're writing their own. We don't intend staging ours for at least 6 months, but we intend staging a more well known show rather than something unknown.

Congratulations to Mná Mná on getting to where they are. I'm dying to see the musical they've put together, and I have it on good authority that it'll be amazing.

    hmmm..

Am just thinking would it be better to have all the LGBT musical groups in Cork came together to produce a combined show rather than separate ones?

I think it would help to foster the gay community in Cork more?
  5. ColleenDawnagh Resident Foodie

Thats the idea behind this show.

This is not for one side of the community, but for the entire community.

    Thinking of auditioning Admin?

Good to hear - how do you hope to achieve that? I ask as Male/Female events (historically) tend to be quite separate in Cork.

Admin's auditioning days are well gone.. ;)

We'll have open auditions which we'll advertise in all gay venues in the city.

We'll specify th parts we're looking to fill on the posters so auditionees will tell us what part they want to be cast as.

I hope that people will realise that we're not looking to segregate or seperate the community but to encourage a stronger sense of community in Cork.

I'll be having a meeting with our accompanist from the Cabaret on Monday so more details to follow.

In the meantime please keep the comments coming!

I have a picture of Colleen trying to be Debbie Allen in Fame legwarmers and everything

Do you mean a musical ala 'Cabaret' or 'A Chorus Line' ???

How large a cast are you looking for?

    Full band?

Which venue have you in mind? Firkin Crane?
  9. admin Administrator

That's the problem I think, the LinC ladies would see it as a seperate male event.

Would it not be better to approach them from the start to see what you could achieve?
  10. ColleenDawnagh Resident Foodie

Well as I say, I'll be meeting with Davy on Monday for a chat and we'll take it from there.

I've already spoken to a rep from LinC about possible joining the guys and the gals for a joint event.

If the ladies see it as a seperate "male" event, then we can only do so much to make it clear that its a joint event. We've made the first move, so we can only do so much.

I agree it has a feeling of jumping on the Linc musicals coat tales. Pity you didn't think of this before 'Mna Mna' had theirs planned from what I hear their one is suppose to be FAB

If you ask nicely they might let you sell programmes LOL:p;)

I had Firkin Crane in mind. Saw a brilliant dance show there. Cabaret was one of the ideas that cropped up in conversation alright.

Probably use a full band if we can get one. Size of cast depends on the show I suppose.

Davy and I talked about this a couple of years back towards the time Refrain broke up. Its been floating around my mind for a while, but you know what? Why not just do it? Sure LinC are doing a musical, but I don't see why the community as a whole can't do it.

The timing is rather unfortunate but sure we don't plan on staging this until next year sometime anyhow.

You see I can read your mind

You want to play the Joel Grey part don't you?
  14. ColleenDawnagh Resident Foodie

Ah he's always been my favourite character!

I'll only get to play him if I'm good enough, but I'd probably play him in a more Alan Cumming style. I got good reviews from quite a few for my rendition of Willkommen last Sunday.

But Cabaret is only my suggestion. There are a few more but we'll decide when it comes to it.
