Yippee!! Rafael Nadal has been knocked out of Wimbledon! And it's only the second round:eek:. And by the world number 100:eek:. The only thing is Andy Murray's side of the draw is much easier now.

And in the European Championships it's gonna be a Spain-Italy final. Germany were poor tonight, while Italy were very good. Spain were poor last night in scraping past a good Portugal, so maybe it'll be Italy's cup? They haven't won it since 1968:eek: (this is my new favourite smiley face) .

    Itaaaaaaliaaaa!
Had so much fun watching that game surrounded by German supporters ;) (mayhaps the free drinks helped)

And Serena Williams was stretched to a 9-7 final set in the 3rd round today....was hoping she'd crash out:eek:
Watch her serve her way to the title....sigh:(
  7. jimjam Geronimo!

I had forgotten how good her serve was.

Italy to beat Spain tonight too. They have quality up front while the Spanish attack is slow to break if they play with a midfielder again up front.

Ah sure, what would I know about football.

:) I figured Spain would probably win but didn't think it would be quite so decisive. Felt sorry for Italy when they went down to 10 men but it didn't quite bring tears to my eyes unlike when Spain beat us 4-0.

Congratulations to Spain, worthy winners I think!

And after beating Kvitova today and with Sharapova out it looks like she'll walk it! She's an ace-machine!

In the men's I'm hoping Federer wins it. I love Djokovic (he's my 2nd favourite player), but Federer has been my favourite player for years.

Angry Murray may beat Tsonga. But I hope and pray he won't win the title. I can't say I like Tsonga either to be honest. I don't know why.

In the women's...I think I want Serena to win? I do like the old guard winning multiple titles. Which is strange coz I usually shout for the newbie in all other sports. I would love to have seen Lisicki win it this year - I do like her and I hope she establishes herself in the top 10. If Azarenka didn't screech at every point I might have more time for her.

    ^^
Lisicki is a strange one. She can clobber the ball/serve huge like the best of them, but she is beyond streaky. She's also incredibly injury prone so she can never really build up any confidence.
She sure is fun to watch when she is on though and firing winners all over the court.
As for Azarenka, I really like her:D That grunt is awful but for me she is the most promising out of the younger generation of players who can win multiple slams. Back to being ranked #1 too once Wimbledon is over.

The final will be an absolute trashing for Radwanska I'm afraid. Aga can be tricky with her off-pace shots and redirecting balls but Serena will simply blow her off the court lol. No way is Serena losing this.
Kind of sad to think she will now have the same amount of Wimbledon titles as her sister (Wimbledon was always Venus' home :( )

Just saw Murray win through to the final in dramatic fashion. I was sure his return was wide on match point:eek:
Great achievement for him but I also want Fed to win. Fantastic opportunity for him to add to his legacy now that he is pretty much in the twilight of his career.

Well Serena is steamrolling her way through the final, as expected I suppose!

While I do want to see her win it's tempered a little by the fact that she'll equal Venus's title haul at Wimpleton. Serena has tended to outshine her sister but Venus has always been the 'Queen of Wimbledon' - that was her place. But now Serena is gonna equal her.

Uh I know...Serena just has to surpass Venus in every single thing:p
I still think Vee is the better grass court player though as it is like her game was just tailor-made for Wimbledon. That 2005 Wimbledon final against Lindsay Davenport was quite simply one of the most amazing matches I have ever seen.
It is so cruel she had to be struck down with an auto-immune disease.
Hopefully she can win the doubles title later this evening...that would be something at least:)

Ya serena's and Roger's Wimbledon. Murray did not play to badly though compared to his previous finals. It is a shame he has had to meet 3 of games best players in his 4 final appearances. Hopefully Murray will win none soon.

Anyhow, back to the original title of the thread, I do play tennis myself and I like hitting the gym and cycling. As for watching sports, I'd watching F1, hurling and tennis.

Looks like a handy win for the Kingdom over Tyrone this evening. Will we see a rematch with the Rebels later in the Summer I wonder ;)

    Venus Williams wins Luxembourg:D

Just pure inspirational stuff. This is a woman fighting an energy sapping auto-immune disease and is still managing to win tour titles.
With this win, Venus finally edges ahead of both Justine Henin and Martina Hingis in the amount of tournament titles won which is really fantastic:D

I don't think we have a hope of beating them. No World Cup for us, again!
